MUFON case 104308 debunking

Analysis of UFO photos at Niagara Falls in the early 20th century

This wonderful picture was sent to the famous MUFON network. The author was sorting through his family photos and found that there was something interesting in the pictures. He himself does not undertake to assert the origin of the object in the photo, giving this opportunity to others. Of course, we do not have all the initial data, such as the exact date of the shooting or the negatives of this photo, but this does not mean that we do not have the opportunity to make a computer analysis of the photo and draw certain conclusions. This is the picture.

Analysis of UFO photos at Niagara Falls in the early 20th century

From official sources, we know that the height of Niagara Falls is about 53 meters, and initially, it may seem that the flying saucer is in close proximity to it, and in this case, its size is small. However, by enlarging the image a little, it becomes clear that the UFO is in the sky behind the key subject of the survey, and not next to the waterfall. Therefore, it is impossible to accurately identify the size of a flying saucer, due to the absence of a number of objects for which comparative measurements could be made.

Error Level Analysis, due to its algorithms, controlling the compression level, allows you to identify extraneous inserts that will differ significantly from all the elements in the photo. It is this type of analysis that we will now apply. In the photo below, we can observe that it is in the area of the alleged flying saucer that there is an excessively contrasting tone range. The most similar element that should give the same tone distribution is in the lower right corner. But it is quite obvious that we do not see any coincidences in this.

F;ying saucer error level analysis

Let's do a PCA analysis of the image. After the basic color change, it becomes noticeable that too many artifacts are formed around the potential flying saucer compared to other parts of the photo, which may indicate that there is an extraneous insert in front of us.

For comparison, and in order to avoid possible errors, we will enlarge another separate object in the form of a defect in the photo, which is located on a uniform background. It's not hard to notice. that we do not have extraneous artifacts ala jpeg compression, which confirms our first version.

Possible flying saucer jpeg analysis

Let's take a look at the enlarged version of the photo that the author provided to us. We will immediately convert the image using PCA analysis and make an additional increase. You can view the original photo directly on MUFON, and this is how we recommend reanalysis if you want it. But, back to our photo. Even with the naked eye, you can see how roughly the object is cut, the edges are completely uneven, and in the right part a piece of the face is smeared (this is what they do when they try to blur the roughness of the edges after cutting the object from one element to another). In our opinion, we are dealing with a rather rough manipulation work.

F;ying saucer manipulations

Well, the last thing you should pay attention to is the distribution of light and shadows. In a normal image, they should be as similar as possible, at least between a couple of real objects, since there are one or more light sources that give such a picture. However, in the case of our potential flying saucer, the light-shadow pattern does not fit into the image.

Flying saucer debunking

Thus, in our opinion, we are not dealing with an authentic photo, and an attempt to make a sensation where there is none. And we remind you that any information should be carefully checked, and only with such joint efforts, we will be able to find the truth about the UFO phenomenon. Thank you for your attention!
