UFO photo Analysis

Analysis of a UFO photo. An interesting approach

This analysis was made by our colleagues in the study of ufology. A photo with a possible UFO was sent to their editorial office. The photos were forwarded to an expert, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences. The materials were made in Kazakhstan, Akmola region, Borovoe resort, two photos were taken one after the other.

The results of the analysis

Received 3 photos taken on 30.08.2013, at 15:07 Astana time (UT+6 hours) in Shchuchinsk, Akmola region, Kazakhstan. 1 of them shows an oval dark UFO over the mountains. All frames have an EXIF, which can be used to get additional information about the shooting.

Technical data

The photos were taken by the camera of the SAMSUNG GT-I9300 smartphone: 8 megapixels, 2448 x 3264, 1/3.2" matrix, crop factor 7.6, focal length 3.70 mm. Hence the angular scale of the image: 0.018 degrees of arc per pixel.

Type of UFO

A dark oblique ellipse of irregular shape.

Object Parameters

The length of the object in the photo is 26 pixels, which corresponds to an angular size of about 0.5 degrees (= the visible size of the Moon). It is impossible to determine the linear size and distance based on the available data. For geometrical reasons, at small angles, these parameters are related by the ratio D=R*tg(a), where R and D are distance and size, a is the angular size, tg is the tangent function.

From here, at a distance of 1 meter, the linear size would be about 1 cm, at 10 m. - 10 cm, at 1 km. - 10 m. The speed of the absence of an object in neighboring frames (taken 1 second earlier and 2 seconds later) can be explained by its rapid movement.

The departure of the UFO from the central axis of the frame beyond its boundary corresponds to about 1300 pixels (or 5 meters per second at a distance of 10 meters). On the other hand, you can estimate the speed of an object by the blurring of its boundaries. The most subtle details of UFOs correspond to 2-3 pixels.

The same blur can be seen in other subtle details in the photo (for example, a maple leaf on a cap). Therefore, 3 pixels is not the offset itself, but its upper estimate. The requirement that the offset should not exceed 3 pixels during the exposure time of 1/858 s, and that there should be more than 1300 pixels during the time between frames (1 s), leads us to an approximate estimate of R/2 < V < R, where R is the distance to the object in meters, and V is its speed in meters per second. For example, for a distance of 1 km, we have V from 500 to 1000 m / s, so that the object turns out as in the presented photos.

Possible causes

Since the distance and size are unknown, any known objects satisfying the found correlations and observation data should be used to explain this UFO.

  1. An insect, small debris or a tree leaf at a short distance from the camera (R from several cm to several meters, D: millimeters or cm, V: centimeters or meters per second). According to the "Weather Diary in Shchuchinsk", on 30.08.2013 the wind was westerly 7 m/s. Above the observation site, the wind speed could differ, but the upper limit can be set equal to 7-10 m/s. The type of UFO is most like a leaf of a tree. A birch leaf about 5 cm in size would fly at a distance of 5 meters at a speed of 2.5 - 5 m / s. Larger objects (e.g. balloons) flying in the wind are not suitable, because they would have been at a greater distance and would have been present in neighboring frames.
  2. A bird about a meter in size at a distance of 100 m would fly at a speed of 150-350 km/h. This is a high, but not prohibitive speed for a bird. A small bird (30 cm) 30 m from the camera would fly at a lower speed (50-100 km/h).
  3. UAV or an airplane at a distance of hundreds of meters or kilometers, the size of meters - tens of meters, the speed of hundreds - thousands of km / h. However, at such short distances, those present would surely have heard the sound of the engine.
  4. An artifact that occurred in the camera itself when shooting or processing an image. This is also possible, but difficult to verify.
  5. The manifestation of a Different Mind or secret military activity of people. This is also possible, but according to the "Occam Principle" such possibilities should not be used for explanation if the observed phenomenon can be explained by known reasons.

The most likely cause of this UFO

A tree leaf that flew a few meters from the camera. This explanation is consistent and consistent with the available data.

Where are the Olmecs from? The first known civilization of America

Where are the Olmecs from? The first known civilization of AmericaIt is known that in the area of the Gulf of Mexico in the time of the Aztecs, that is, shortly before the arrival of the Spaniards in Mexico, there lived a people who called themselves the Olmecs. This name was given to the creators of an unknown Bronze Age culture discovered in Mexico in the first half of the twentieth century. In fact, there is no evidence that the contemporaries of the Aztecs were descendants of those mysterious people who created about three thousand years ago the culture that we today call "Olmec".
