Images from the surface of the Moon transmitted to Earth from the Soviet interplanetary station Luna-13 in 1966

In the sixties of the XX century, there were many brilliant scientists and inventors working in the field of rocket and space production. The most important task in their lives, which they set for themselves, was to learn something unknown, namely, they were interested in exploring space, the nearest planets, and their satellites.

At that time, the study of our satellite was actively discussed. It was interesting to find out what can be there, is there, and what the surface itself looks like. As a result, interplanetary stations were created to study the moon. And again, thanks to Soviet designers, another interplanetary station was created, called Luna-13. The station was sent to the surface of the moon on December 21, 1966.

And already on December 24, 1966, she successfully landed on the visible part of the Moon in the area of the crater "Ocean of Storms". Its main directives included: to fix what the Moon looks like from the surface itself, as well as obtaining data on the composition and density of the soil at a depth of 20 centimeters.

During the study, the station's built-in equipment showed that there is a large amount of radiation background on the Moon and there is almost no atmosphere. The Luna-13 space station was equipped with a built-in camera, with the help of which a photo panorama from the surface was recorded for several days, which in turn also became a significant element.

Images and all images from the Moon's surface were immediately transmitted to Earth. The transmission to the Ground was carried out with a rather long time delay. It took about 2-3 hours to transmit each fragment of the panorama.

The images transmitted to Earth have become really valuable material. In the images, you can see what the surface of the Earth's satellite looks like.

These images were taken by the station on December 27, 1966. You can pay attention that against the background of the lunar surface there are strange objects, obviously man-made. Presumably, these are breakaway parts from the Luna-13 space station. For a long time, these pictures were not exposed to the public for viewing. Since the same 1966, the pictures were stored in the Soviet archive of scientific and technical documentation.

Some researchers believe that the pictures are not details from the space station at all, but something else. Since, according to official information, the station landed smoothly and nothing could detach from it. There were no comments from official sources on this matter.

What we liked: the pictures, despite their black-and-white image, look quite high quality. And considering that they were taken in 1966, I would like to note that even in our time, some images from the surface of Mars taken by modern rovers sometimes do not look as high-quality as these presented images of 1966.
